| 16x12in (40x30cm) | 20x16in (50x40cm) | 24x18in (60x45cm) |
36x24in (90x60cm) |

| 12x16in (30x40cm) | 16x20in (40x50cm) | 18x24in (45x60cm) |
24x36in (60x90cm) |

WeiterlesenPublished by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1968 from survey data gathered in 1948, “Jupiter Quadrangle” captures a revealing moment in the history of Florida’s lower Atlantic coast. At 1:24,000 scale, it presents Jupiter and its environs with the precision that made USGS quadrangles indispensable to planners, engineers, scientists, and travelers. The map’s disciplined topographic language records the meeting of settlement, river, inlet, and ocean before the region’s later waves of suburban expansion. Jupiter appears not merely as a coastal town, but as a landscape shaped by waterways, sandy ridges, wetlands, roads, and carefully plotted human occupation, offering a finely grained view of Palm Beach County in transition.
The geography is anchored by Jupiter Inlet, where the Loxahatchee River reaches the Atlantic Ocean in a setting long prized for navigation, fishing, and strategic coastal access. The river system, with its branching channels and adjoining lowlands, gives the map much of its character, while Lake Worth Creek and the surrounding water bodies reveal the intricate hydrology of this subtropical terrain. The Atlantic shoreline forms a clean eastern boundary, contrasting with the softer, more complex inland pattern of marsh, vegetation, and settlement. Color-coded water and vegetation create an immediate sense of environmental structure, distinguishing wetlands, wooded areas, and developed zones with elegant cartographic clarity.
Jupiter itself is shown as a populated place still closely bound to its natural surroundings. Residential neighborhoods, trails, pathways, local roads, and open lands appear within a landscape not yet overwhelmed by continuous development. US Highway 1 and State Road 706 stand out as important corridors, tying the town to neighboring coastal communities and the broader transportation network of southeast Florida. To the south and west, the map gestures toward the emerging regional geography that would later include more intensive growth around places such as Palm Beach Gardens. In this sense, the quadrangle serves as both a geographic document and a subtle record of impending change.
The USGS style is especially suited to this coastal environment, where minute variations in elevation, drainage, and land cover carry great significance. Instead of dramatic mountains or deep valleys, the topography here is one of subtle gradients, wetlands, river margins, dunes, and engineered routes across low-lying ground. The map’s contouring and symbology give form to terrain that might otherwise seem visually flat, making visible the delicate distinctions between inhabitable land, watery edges, and vegetated preserves. Parks and natural areas are integrated into the broader pattern, emphasizing the ecological richness of Jupiter’s surroundings and the importance of water in defining both movement and settlement.
As a historical document, “Jupiter Quadrangle” offers a valuable view of the area before late twentieth-century development transformed much of coastal Palm Beach County. The 1948 survey data preserve traces of an older Jupiter: a community oriented around river, inlet, highway, and shoreline, with abundant wetlands and open spaces still shaping daily geography. For collectors drawn to maps of Florida, coastal change, or American federal cartography, this quadrangle is compelling because it combines scientific exactitude with a quietly evocative sense of place. It records a landscape poised between natural abundance and modern growth, rendering Jupiter at a formative moment in its evolution.

Every piece is printed to museum-grade archival standards using fade-resistant pigment inks on acid-free matte paper. Choose an unframed map print, framed map or canvas using the finish options above. Framed maps use crystal-clear optical acrylic and arrive ready to hang.
With its rich detail and strong sense of place, this map makes a considered gift for a new home, anniversary, retirement or anyone with a personal connection to the area shown. Still deciding? Explore our collection of rare old and vintage maps to discover another place, period or style.
This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.
For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.
