That's why all of our paper, frames and packaging are from FSC certified sources.
But we don't stop there. We've partnered with Treeapp to plant trees around the world.

The "Air Age Map of the World," crafted by the esteemed C. S. Hammond & Co. in the late 1930s, is a captivating artifact from the dawn of global air travel. This map is a testament to a transformative era, showcasing the burgeoning network of air routes that began to shrink the world, connecting major cities across continents with unprecedented speed. As a thematic map, it highlights the revolutionary concept of the "air age," a time when the skies became highways, and the notion of global connectivity took flight.
The map employs an Azimuthal Equidistant Polar Projection, a cartographic choice that underscores the strategic importance of polar routes in aviation. This projection allows viewers to appreciate the shortest paths between destinations, known as "Great Circles," emphasizing the newfound accessibility of the world via air travel. The design is both functional and visionary, reflecting the optimism and ambition of an era eager to explore the skies.
C. S. Hammond & Co., renowned for their precision and artistry in mapmaking, imbued this piece with both historical and aesthetic value. The map captures a snapshot of pre-World War II geopolitics, with features such as the Danzig Corridor and Japan's territorial holdings in Korea and Taiwan. These details offer a glimpse into a world on the brink of monumental change, making the map not only a navigational tool but also a historical document.
Visually, the map is a feast for the eyes, adorned with illustrations of airplanes that symbolize the excitement and innovation of air travel. Inset maps of the Western and Eastern Hemispheres provide additional context, while annotations on air routes and distances offer insights into the logistics of early aviation. The vibrant colors and meticulous detail reflect the craftsmanship and dedication of its creators.
Beyond its practical application, the "Air Age Map of the World" serves as a cultural artifact, encapsulating the spirit of an era defined by exploration and technological advancement. It invites viewers to imagine the possibilities of global travel at a time when the world was becoming more interconnected than ever before. This map is not just a representation of geography but a celebration of human ingenuity and the boundless potential of the air age.

This map looks great at every size, but I always recommend going for a larger size if you have space. That way you can easily make out all of the details.
This map looks amazing at sizes all the way up to 100in (250cm). If you are looking for a larger map, please get in touch.
Please note: the labels on this map are hard to read if you order a map that is 20in (50cm) or smaller. The map is still very attractive, but if you would like to read the map easily, please buy a larger size.
The model in the listing images is holding the 18x24in (45x60cm) version of this map.

If you’re looking for something slightly different, check out my collection of the best old maps to see if something else catches your eye.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving, anniversary or housewarming gift for someone from the areas covered by this map.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.

This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.
For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.
