This wonderful old map of Nevada was originally published in 1882. It was created by Rand & McNally.
This handcoloured map shows Nevada in 1882, 18 years after it became the 38th state of the United States of America.
Around the time this map was published, many cattle ranchers were forced into bankruptcy. The decline of the mining and ranching industries caused the state’s population to drop significantly in a decade, from 62,000 to 47,000.
Towards the bottom right of the map, you can also see the Black Canyon river, which separates Nevada from the state of Arizona, where the Hoover Dam, which stands at 726 feet (221 metres), is now located (but it hadn't been built when this map was made!)
This map looks great at all sizes: 18x12, 16x20in (40.5x51cm), 18x24in (45.5x61cm), 24x36in (61x91.5cm), 30x45in (76x114.5cm), 33x50in (84x127cm), 40x60in (102x153cm) and 47x70in (120x178cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 90in (229cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24x36in (61x91.5cm) version of this map.

If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of California by J. H. Colton in 1860.
The locations on this map include: Nye County, Lincoln County, Clark County, Douglas County, White Pine County, Esmeralda County, Washoe County, Reno, Las Vegas, Elko and Carson City.

This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father's Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone interested in Nevada or the history of Nevada.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
